UNAP Endorsements
UNAP Endorsements 2010
Political elections provide an opportunity to educate candidates, as well as our members, about the UNAP's legislative and policy agenda. Each election year, the UNAP issues endorsements of candidates for election who support the goals and objectives of the UNAP. Endorsements are issued by the UNAP Joint Executive Board, and are based on consideration of the candidate's track record, interview, questionnaire, electability, and/or support by allied organizations. UNAP members have made a big difference in political elections - making phone calls, distributing literature, hosting district meetings, door knocking, and/or doing other volunteer work for candidates.
Lincoln Chafee for Governor
Throughout his career in public service, Senator Chafee has distinguished himself as a principled and effective leader. As Mayor of Warwick, he demonstrated a collaborative style of leadership that guided the City through a period of economic stability and growth. As a US Senator, he demonstrated the courage to stand up to his own party, opposing an ill-conceived war and ill-advised tax breaks for the wealthy. As our Governor, we are confident that Lincoln Chafee’s thoughtful and inclusive approach will bring the change we need at the State House to turn around our State’s economy and improve the quality of life of all Rhode Islanders.
Elizabeth Roberts for Lieutenant Governor
Throughout her career in public service, Lieutenant Governor Roberts has been a true health care advocate. Elizabeth recognizes the importance and the challenge of ensuring access to quality health care services for all Rhode Islanders, while also controlling the cost of health care for the businesses, governments, and working families of our State. As Lieutenant Governor, Elizabeth has been a thoughtful and effective leader in convening diverse stakeholders to address these challenges, and we are confident that she will continue her efforts to improve the health and well-being of our State and its people.
Peter Kilmartin for Attorney General
During his many years in the RI legislature, Peter Kilmartin has been a staunch ally of health care workers and all working people. Peter's commitment to thorough and effective scrutiny of proposed of hospital mergers, his strong opposition to forced overtime for nurses, and his vocal criticism of excessive hospital CEO compensation give us confidence that he will be a strong advocate for the public interest as Attorney General.
David Cicilline for Congress
David Cicilline will be a strong and effective voice in Washington for issues that affect working families in Rhode Island. David is committed to supporting and improving health care reform to provide health security for all Americans. He is also committed to reversing the tax breaks that were given to the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the middle class, and to protecting our Social Security system. Most importantly, we know that he will work tirelessly to strengthen our economy and bring good jobs to Rhode Island.
