Evaluating & Monitoring Hospital Staffing Plans: Landmark Medical Center, RI
As of January 2006, each hospital in Rhode Island is required by law to provide the Department of Health a projected plan for staffing of nurses. This is not a retrospective report with actual numbers. It is a report of how a hospital will staff each unit, based on an estimate of the future census for that unit. Each hospital has provided a report that includes some general information about the hospital and the staffing plans for each unit in the hospital. This Hospital Staffing Disclosure law was passed as a result of the tireless efforts of many UNAP members and our allies. The UNAP intends to assist health care professionals and the general public inevaluating and monitoring hospital staffing plans.

A well-staffed unit is not only defined by the number of caregivers included in the team, but by the carefully chosen members of each team depending upon the needs of each patient and the unit overall.
